In the last five years, I have transitioned from the camera to the computer as my primary means of creative expression. Using pixels as "paint" on a virtual canvas, I am interested in pushing the boundaries of computer-based image creation, one of the most rapidly evolving art forms of recent years. While there are elements in my art that suggest the photorealism of my earlier works, I now create from my imagination, without the use of a model, camera or lens.
Informed by methods ranging from black and white photography to silkscreen, I have developed a highly personalized aesthetic defined by the reduction of forms to their absolute essences. This is most evident in my series of vessels (Change of Venue) and spheres (Oracle Eye), which are whimsical expressions of my fascination with the translucent, reflective, sculptural and tonal values of glass.
My finished images are exposed by red, blue and green lasers onto light-sensitive, metallic papers. No inks are used in the process. The "light-jet prints" are then fused between a highly refined, acrylic face plate and a composite back, making each work of art truly one-of-a-kind.
