KL Heagen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in fine art from California State University Long Beach,
specializing in drawing and painting, with continuing studies at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. After a twenty-year career in graphic design, she returned to her love of oil painting full time. Vivid landscapes and seascapes are her primary subjects, inspired by her worldly travels. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America, Impressionist Painters of America, California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and the Southern California Artists Association.
Surreal Impressionism has
become her signature, contemporary style. She enjoys the challenge of combining traditional techniques with modern subjects, with oil as her preferred medium. Her work is displayed at regional galleries and exhibits.
"I enjoy translating natural environments and tangible forms into intense color contrasts. My style involves fluidity, balance, energy, luminous temperature and light. Using undulating rhythms of color, form and dimension are presented within passive space. Abstract and organic shapes join to create a realm that is literal as well as imaginable, enabling the viewer to identify reality as well as illusion. The surreal dimensionality of this realm ultimately transcends from the canvas to the mind as one's own perceivable inner rhythms of life.”
